Toucans (Ramphastidae)

Tawny-tufted Toucanet (Selenidera nattereri) - HBW 7, p. 255

French: Toucanet de Natterer German: Nattererarassari Spanish: Tucanete de Natterer

Taxonomy: Pteroglossus Nattereri Gould, 1836, Brazil.
Probably forms a superspecies with S. reinwardtii, S. gouldii and S. maculirostris; S. culik and S. spectabilis have sometimes been included too, but these two appear to differ from others in voice and display behaviour. Monotypic.

Distribution: Patchily distributed along rivers, from extreme E Colombia (R Vaupés region) and S Venezuela to NW Brazil (R Solimões from Tonantins to Codajás, and N to upper R Negro); reports from Guyana and French Guiana require confirmation, as there is no evidence of occurrence in intervening areas.
