Taxonomy: Charadrius ruficollis Wagler, 1829, Canelones, Uruguay.
Sometimes placed in genus Eudromias. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • pallidus Carriker, 1935 - coastal N Peru.
  • ruficollis (Wagler, 1829) - coastal C Peru S through W Bolivia, Chile and W & NC Argentina to Tierra del Fuego; non-breeding N to S Ecuador and E to E Argentina and SE Brazil.
