Taxonomy: Euphonia Anneae Cassin, 1865, Santa Rosa, Costa Rica.
Recent molecular-genetic analysis indicates that genus belongs in family Fringillidae. May form a superspecies with E. xanthogaster. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- anneae Cassin, 1865 - Caribbean foothills from Costa Rica E to W Panama (Volcán de Chiriquí).
- rufivertex Salvin, 1866 - both slopes in Panama (from Veraguas) E to extreme NW Colombia (area of Cerro Tacarcuna, in foothills W of Gulf of Urabá).
