Taxonomy: Ploceus reichardi Reichenow, 1886, Karema, east shore of Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania.
Has been thought to form a superspecies, or even to be conspecific, with P. velatus, P. vitellinus, P. ruweti and P. katangae, but molecular data suggest that it is close only to P. katangae. Monotypic.
Distribution: Local in W Tanzania and extreme NE Zambia.
