Taxonomy: Serinus syriacus Bonaparte, 1850, Bcharre, Lebanon.
Has sometimes been thought to form a superspecies with S. serinus, S. canaria and S. canicollis, but relationships uncertain. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds Lebanon, S Syria, N Israel and adjacent areas of Jordan; winters also S to NE Egypt (Sinai), S Jordan and N Iraq.
