Taxonomy: Thalassidroma monorhis Swinhoe, 1867, near Amoy, China.
Sometimes considered subspecies of O. leucorhoa; these two may form superspecies with O. homochroa. Monotypic.
Distribution: Japan (N Kyushu, W Honshu) W to Yellow Sea off China and Korea, and N to extreme SE USSR. Recent records suggest possible breeding in N Atlantic.
