Taxonomy: Larus furcatus Néboux, 1846, Monterey, California (error = Galapagos).
Morphometric analysis consistently shows this to be a particularly distinctive species. Monotypic.
Distribution: Galapagos, mainly in E half of archipelago; also Malpelo I, off W Colombia.
