Taxonomy: Certhia superba Shaw, 1811, Malembo, Cabinda, Angola.
Genus often subsumed in Nectarinia. Four subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- ashantiensis Bannerman, 1922 - Sierra Leone and S Mali E to Togo and NW Benin.
- nigeriae (Rand & Traylor, 1959) - SE Benin and S Nigeria.
- superbus (Shaw, 1811) - S Cameroon, Central African Republic and DRCongo (except NE) S to W Angola.
- buvuma van Someren, 1932 - NE DRCongo, Uganda, W Kenya and extreme NW Tanzania.
