Taxonomy: M[alacocercus]. Earlei Blyth, 1844, near Calcutta, West Bengal, India.
Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • sonivia (Koelz, 1954) - Pakistan (R Indus plains) and NW India (Punjab).
  • earlei (Blyth, 1844) - N India (Haryana E to N Bihar and from West Bengal S to NE Orissa, also in Assam and Manipur), S Nepal, Bangladesh and SW, C & S Myanmar.
