Taxonomy: Amblyornis subalaris Sharpe, 1884, Astrolabe Mountains, south-east New Guinea.
Has hybridized with A. macgregoriae. Monotypic.

Distribution: Mountains of SE New Guinea, from upper Angabunga R E to Mt Suckling, Mt Simpson and Mt Moiba areas.
