Taxonomy: Brachylophus xanthopygæus J. E. Gray and G. R. Gray, 1846, Himalayas and central India.
Species name sometimes erroneously given as P. myrmecophoneus, a junior synonym. Monotypic.
Distribution: N and peninsular India and lower foothills of Himalayas in S Nepal E to Myanmar and S China (W Yunnan), and S to Sri Lanka, SW Thailand; also Cambodia, S Laos and Cochinchina.
