Spanish: Trepamusgos Cabecirrayado
Taxonomy: Thripadectes virgaticeps Lawrence, 1874, “Quito”, Ecuador.
Considered by some authors to be sister-species of T. rufobrunneus, despite distance between the two in current linear sequences. Population in E Andes of S Colombia (in E Nariño) previously considered to belong to race magdalenae, but probably referable to sumaco; all races in Colombia and Ecuador in need of re-evaluation.
