Taxonomy: Campephaga caeruleogrisea G. R. Gray, 1858, Aru Islands.
Possibly belongs to the superspecies comprised by C. macei, C. javensis, C. schistacea, C. personata, C. atriceps, C. fortis, C. welchmani, C. caledonica and C. novaehollandiae. Three subspecies recognized.

- strenua (Schlegel, 1871) - W & C New Guinea (E to Wahgi Valley), including Yapen I.
- caeruleogrisea (G. R. Gray, 1858) - SC New Guinea and Aru Is.
- adamsoni Mayr & Rand, 1936 - E New Guinea.
