Taxonomy: Graculus chalconotus G. R. Gray, 1845, Otago, South Island, New Zealand.
Often considered race of P. carunculatus. Some authors merge carunculatus, chalconotus and onslowi, and campbelli, ranfurlyi and colensoi into single species. Sometimes placed in Leucocarbo or Euleucocarbo. Monotypic.
Distribution: Restricted to SE South I and Stewart I (New Zealand).
