Taxonomy: P[omatorhinus]. melanurus Blyth, 1847, Urugaha, south of Kalutara, Western Province, Sri Lanka.
Has been treated as conspecific with P. horsfieldii and sometimes also P. schisticeps. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- melanurus Blyth, 1847 - W part of SC Sri Lanka (wet lowlands and W hills).
- holdsworthi Whistler, 1942 - E part of SC Sri Lanka (dry lowlands and E hills).
