Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides) - HBW 1, p. 415

French: Crabier chevelu German: Rallenreiher Spanish: Garcilla Cangrejera

Taxonomy: Ardea ralloides Scopoli, 1769, Carniola.
Sometimes considered to form superspecies with A. grayii, A. bacchus and A. speciosa. Monotypic.

Distribution: SW & C Europe eastwards to region of Aral Sea and SE Iran; also Africa N & S of Sahara, Madagascar.
