Wrens (Troglodytidae)
Spotted Wren (Campylorhynchus gularis) - HBW 10, p. 403
French: Troglodyte tacheté
German: Bartzaunkönig
Spanish: Cucarachero Manchado
Other common names: Spotted Cactus-wren, Mexican Wren
Taxonomy: Campylorhynchus gularis P. L. Sclater, 1861, Bolaños, Jalisco, Mexico.
Sometimes treated as conspecific with C. jocosus, but the two are quite distinct in appearance and probably occupy slightly different ecological niches. Considerable individual variation in some characters (e.g. degree of spotting on underparts), but differences appear insufficiently constant to warrant separation of distinct races. Monotypic.
Distribution: Mexico, in two disjunct populations separated by unsuitable habitat: in W, from SE Sonora S to N Michoacán and W México; in E, from SW Tamaulipas S to Hidalgo.
