Taxonomy: Motacilla striata Pallas, 1764, Holland.
Forms a superspecies with M. gambagae, and sometimes regarded as conspecific. Seven subspecies recognized.

  • striata (Pallas, 1764) - breeds Europe E across Ural Mts to W Siberia (R Irtysh), and NW Africa (N Morocco E to N Tunisia); non-breeding W, E & S Africa.
  • balearica von Jordans, 1913 - breeds Balearic Is; non-breeding W & SW Africa.
  • tyrrhenica Schiebel, 1910 - breeds Corsica and Sardinia; non-breeding probably Africa.
