Taxonomy: Oriolus ocellatus Scopoli, 1786, Manila.
Generally regarded as polytypic, but population of Luzon may be monotypic with clinal variation in size; racial diagnosis based on few specimens. Taxonomic status of Negros population unknown. Two subspecies currently recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- benguetensis Parkes, 1968 - montane N Luzon; intermediate form in lowland NE Luzon (Philippines).
- ocellata (Scopoli, 1786) - lowland C Luzon (Philippines).
