Taxonomy: Dendropicus [sic] poecilolaemus Reichenow, 1893, Sconga, west of Lake Albert, Zaire.
Monotypic.
Distribution: Extreme S Nigeria (Serti) and C Cameroon E to NW Zaire and N Congo, and S Sudan, W & C Uganda and W Kenya (Nandi and Kabarnet); probably also in intervening parts of Central African Republic and N Zaire, but confirmation required.
