Other common names: (Common/Central Australian) Whiteface, White-faced Squeaker/Titmouse; Eastern Whiteface (leucopsis); Chestnut-bellied/(Western) Pallid Whiteface (castaneiventris)
Taxonomy: Xerophila leucopsis Gould, 1841, South Australia.
Races probably intergrade in SE Western Australia, but circumstances poorly known. Paler birds from SC Australia (S Northern Territory, NW South Australia and adjacent Western Australia) included in nominate, but sometimes considered to represent an additional race (whitei). Two subspecies presently recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- castaneiventris (Milligan, 1903) - C Western Australia.
- leucopsis (Gould, 1841) - SE Western Australia E to S Queensland, inland E New South Wales and Victoria.
