Taxonomy: Fringillaria poliopleura Salvadori, 1888, Soddè, Shewa, Ethiopia.
Forms a superspecies with E. flaviventris. Monotypic.
Distribution: Locally from Ethiopia and Somalia, also extreme SE Sudan and NE Uganda, S through Kenya to NE Tanzania.
