Taxonomy: Tringa solitaria Wilson, 1813, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.
Formerly considered conspecific with T. ochropus. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • cinnamomea (Brewster, 1890) - C & S Alaska through W Northwest Territories and N British Columbia to NE Manitoba; winters from N South America S to C Argentina.
  • solitaria Wilson, 1813 - E British Columbia through SC Canada to Quebec and Labrador; winters from Central America and West Indies to South America S to Argentina, and occasionally in S USA.
