Taxonomy: Rallus striatus Linnaeus, 1766, Manila, Philippines.
Sometimes placed in Rallus or Hypotaenidia. Seven subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- albiventer (Swainson, 1838) - India and Sri Lanka to SC China (SE Yunnan) and Thailand; some may winter in S Thailand and Malaysia.
- obscurior (Hume, 1874) - Andaman and Nicobar Is.
- jouyi (Stejneger, 1886) - SE China and Hainan.

- paratermus (Oberholser, 1924) - Samar I, EC Philippines.
