Taxonomy: Thryophilus sinaloa S. F. Baird, 1864, Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Relationships with T. rufalbus uncertain. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- cinereus (Brewster, 1889) - NW Mexico (NE Sonora S to N Sinaloa and W Chihuahua).
- sinaloa (S. F. Baird, 1864) - C Sinaloa and adjacent W Durango S to Michoacán.
- russeus (Nelson, 1903) - C Guerrero E to W Oaxaca, in S Mexico.
