Taxonomy: Prinia leontica Bates, 1930, Birwa Peak, Sierra Leone.
Previously placed in genus Prinia, but differs in calls, behaviour and plumage; genetic evidence suggests closer relationship to Apalis and Camaroptera. Sometimes considered a race of S. leucopogon, but differs in size, plumage and call; sister-species status supported by genetic analysis. Monotypic.
Distribution: Locally in highlands of Guinea, Sierra Leone, N Liberia and SW Ivory Coast.
