Taxonomy: Paradigalla brevicauda Rothschild and E. J. O. Hartert, 1911, Mount Goliath, central New Guinea.
Forms a superspecies with P. carunculata, and was in the past sometimes considered conspecific. Birds from Utakwa R, at c. 1500 m in Nassau Range (WC New Guinea), described as race intermedia, but considered inseparable from birds in rest of species' range. Monotypic.
Distribution: C ranges of New Guinea from Weyland Mts E to Mt Karimui and Bismarck Range.
