Taxonomy: Muscicapa senegalensis Linnaeus, 1766, Senegal.
Part of a superspecies that probably includes also B. orientalis, B. molitor, B. soror and B. pririt; possible slight geographical overlap with first of those in N Cameroon. Proposed race togoensis (described from Togo) considered untenable. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Mauritania and Senegal E to Nigeria and N & C Cameroon (E to Benue Plain and Mandara region).
