Taxonomy: Tringa alba Pallas, 1764, coast of North Sea.
Formerly placed in monospecific genus Crocethia. Monotypic.

Distribution: Canadian Arctic, Greenland and Svalbard to Severnaya Zemlya Is, Taymyr Peninsula, Lena Delta and New Siberian Is; small numbers in N Alaska. Winters on coast from C North to S South America, and from W & S Europe and Africa through S Asia to Australasia and some tropical Pacific islands.
