Taxonomy: Phylloscopus tenellipes borealoides Portenko, 1950, Kunashir, southern Kuril Islands, Russia.
Has been considered conspecific with P. tenellipes, but vocally distinct. Monotypic.

Distribution: Breeds Sakhalin I, S Kuril Is and Japan (mainly Hokkaido and Honshu); non-breeding Ryukyu Is, possibly also Indochina.
