Taxonomy: Thripophaga guttuligera P. L. Sclater, 1864, interior of Colombia = Bogotá.
Genus probably closest to Premnoplex, and this supported by anatomical data; both genera merged with Margarornis by some authors. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- venezuelana Phelps, Sr. & Phelps, Jr., 1956 - NW Venezuela (Perijá Mts, and Andes of SW Táchira).
- guttuligera (P. L. Sclater, 1864) - Andes of Colombia (all three ranges), Ecuador and Peru (S to Puno).
