Taxonomy: C.[erthia] nipalensis Blyth, 1845, Nepal.
Occasionally considered a race of C. familiaris, but no grounds for such treatment. Molecular genetic studies (cytochrome b) indicate that C. tianquanensis is its closest relative. Monotypic.
Distribution: Himalayas from N India (E Uttaranchal) E to E Bhutan, also S China (SE Xizang, extreme W Yunnan W of R Salween) and NE Myanmar (SE Kachin).
