Taxonomy: Buarremon nationi P. L. Sclater, 1881, western Andes above Lima, 10,000–14,000 feet [c. 3050–4270 m], Peru.
Sometimes thought to form a superspecies with A. schistaceus and A. seebohmi, and often considered conspecific with one or the other. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • nationi (P. L. Sclater, 1881) - Andes of W Peru (Lima).
  • brunneiceps (Berlepsch & Stolzmann, 1906) - Andes of SW Peru (Ica and Ayacucho S to Arequipa).
