New World Warblers (Parulidae)

Russet-crowned Warbler (Basileuterus coronatus) - HBW 15, p. 789

French: Paruline à diadème German: Goldscheitel-Waldsänger Spanish: Reinita Coronirroja
Other common names: Bay-crowned Warbler (castaneiceps and chapmani)

Taxonomy: Myiodioctes coronatus Tschudi, 1844, Chanchamayo Valley, Peru.
May form a superspecies with B. conspicillatus; has in the past been considered conspecific with both that species and B. cinereicollis, latter being closely related and possibly partly sympatric with present species, but separated altitudinally. Races form two groups, differing in underpart coloration, the "white-bellied group", with underparts uniformly greyish-white (castaneiceps and chapmani), and "yellow-bellied group", with yellow underparts (all other races); it has been suggested that these groups may constitute two separate species.
