Taxonomy: Rallus viridis P. L. S. Müller, 1776, Cayenne, French Guiana.
Sometimes placed in Laterallus, which it resembles in voice. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- brunnescens (Todd, 1932) - E Colombia (middle Magdalena Valley).
- viridis (P. L. S. Müller, 1776) - S Venezuela, through the Guianas and Brazil, SW to E Ecuador, E Peru and extreme N Bolivia (Beni).
