Taxonomy: Coccyzus geoffroyi Temminck, 1820, Pará, Brazil.
Form squamiger may be better treated as a full species. Seven subspecies currently recognized.

  • salvini P. L. Sclater, 1866 - Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Pacific coast of Colombia.
  • aequatorialis Chapman, 1923 - SE Colombia, Ecuador and N Peru.
  • australis Carriker, 1935 - Peru and NW Bolivia.
