Other common names: Eastern/Rufous-vented Bush-hen
Taxonomy: Porzana moluccana Wallace, 1865, Ambon and Ternate, Moluccas.
Formerly considered conspecific with A. olivaceus, but sufficiently distinctive in plumage to merit separation; probably best considered as forming superspecies. Four subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- moluccanus (Wallace, 1865) - Sangihe Is, Moluccas, Misool I and W & N New Guinea.
- nigrifrons (Hartert, 1926) - Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Is.
- ultimus Mayr, 1949 - E Solomon Is.
- ruficrissus (Gould, 1869) - S & E New Guinea, and NE & E Australia.
