Taxonomy: Phyllergates heterolaemus Mearns, 1905, Mount Apo, Mindanao, Philippines.
May form a superspecies with or be conspecific with O. cucullatus; affinities of the two uncertain; they differ from congeners in high-pitched song, and latter species seemingly also in nest details (unknown for present species). Monotypic.

Distribution: C & SE Mindanao (mountains of Apo, Busa, Kitanglad, Matutum, Mayo and Puting Bato), in S Philippines.
