Taxonomy: Lurocalis rufiventris Taczanowski, 1884, Peru.
Formerly considered conspecific with L. semitorquatus, with which probably forms superspecies. Monotypic.
Distribution: Confined to Andes, from W Venezuela to SW Colombia, S through C Ecuador, W & S Peru to W Bolivia.
