Taxonomy: Ardea lineata Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne.
Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- lineatum (Boddaert, 1783) - SE Mexico to W Ecuador and E through Amazonia to N Bolivia, E Brazil and NE Argentina.
- marmoratum (Vieillot, 1817) - C Bolivia to E Brazil and S to NE Argentina.
