Taxonomy: Corethrura rubra P. L. Sclater and Salvin, 1860, Vera Paz, Guatemala.
In past, up to three races proposed, ruber, ruberrimus and tamaulipensis. Monotypic.
Distribution: S & E Mexico (Guerrero and Tamaulipas) S to Honduras, N Nicaragua and NW Costa Rica (N Guanacaste).
