Taxonomy: Heteronyx ruddi C. H. B. Grant, 1908, Wakkerstroom, Mpumulanga, South Africa.
Forms a superspecies with H. archeri and H. sidamoensis. Monotypic.

Distribution: NE & E South Africa: isolated populations in SE Mpumulanga, E Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.
