Taxonomy: Pelecanus carunculatus Gmelin, 1789, Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand, and Staten Island.
Often includes P. chalconotus and P. onslowi; these three sometimes considered conspecific with P. campbelli complex (campbelli, ranfurlyi and colensoi). Alternatively placed in Leucocarbo or Euleucocarbo. Monotypic.
Distribution: Restricted to area of Cook Strait (New Zealand), breeding in Marlborough Sounds, NE South I.
