Taxonomy: Pionopsitta pulchra Berlepsch, 1897, San José, Río Dagua, Colombia.
Forms a parapatric species pair with P. haematotis, with which considered conspecific in past. Monotypic.
Distribution: Lowlands and foothills of W Colombia and NW Ecuador.
