Other common names: Collared Pratincole(!); Chestnut-collared/Rufous-collared Pratincole (liberiae); White-collared Pratincole (nuchalis)
Taxonomy: Glareola nuchalis G. R. Gray, 1849, Fifth Cataract of the Nile near Berber, Sudan.
Sometimes placed in Galachrysia with G. cinerea and G. lactea. Race liberiae sometimes considered a megasubspecies. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- liberiae Schlegel, 1881 - Sierra Leone to W Cameroon.
- nuchalis G. R. Gray, 1849 - Chad E to Uganda, extreme W Kenya and Ethiopia, and S to R Zambezi in Zambia, NE Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
