Taxonomy: Coturnix Argoondah Sykes, 1832, Deccan.
Race salimialii has been considered a mere morph. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- meinertzhageni Whistler, 1937 - NW India S to Kutch and E to W Madhya Pradesh.
- argoondah (Sykes, 1832) - Peninsular India.
- salimalii Whistler, 1943 - S India (EC Karnataka).
