Taxonomy:
Anas collaris Donovan, 1809, Lincolnshire, England, from specimen found in Leadenhall Market, London.
Considered by some to form superspecies with A. novaeseelandiae and A. fuligula, although probably affinities closer to A. valisineria, A. ferina and A. americana. Hybridization with Anas crecca recorded in captivity. Monotypic.
Distribution: C Alaska and C Canada eastwards to Newfoundland, southwards to C and W USA, as far S as N California, Colorado and Great Lakes region.
