Taxonomy: Bucco atro-flavus Sparrman, 1798, Sierra Leone.
Rather isolated member of genus, perhaps near to P. bilineatus and the superspecies formed by P. pusillus and P. chrysoconus. “P. erythronotos” is a synonym. Monotypic.
Distribution: Senegambia E in forested areas to S Cameroon, thence to SE Central African Republic and W Uganda, and S to Cabinda (N Angola), R Congo and CE Zaire.
