Parrots (Psittacidae)
Red-and-green Macaw (Ara chloroptera) - HBW 4, p. 422
French: Ara chloroptère
German: Grünflügelara
Spanish: Guacamayo Aliverde
Other common names: Green-winged Macaw
Taxonomy: Ara chloropterus G. R. Gray, 1859, no locality.
Original spelling has been taken as evidence that species name was created as a masculine noun; however, at least as likely to be a lapsus calumi, and long-standing feminine ending should thus be retained. Monotypic.
Distribution: E Panama through lowland Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas and Brazil S to Paraguay and W to E Ecuador, E Peru and NE Bolivia; formerly in N Argentina.
