Taxonomy: Pogonorhynchus rubrifacies Reichenow, 1892, Biharamulo, north-west Tanzania.
Related to L. leucocephalus through L. chaplini, the combined group also fairly close to L. vieilloti; also related to L. guifsobalito and L. torquatus. Distinct from all, however, in morphology; duet form nearest to that of L. chaplini, but songs of male and female of present species differ, as they do in L. guifsobalito. Monotypic.
Distribution: SW Uganda, E Rwanda and NW Tanzania.
